TOPIC: New Program Ideas

New Program Ideas 2 years, 3 months ago #14

What sort of programs would you like to see on West TV?

We now have a fully functional TV studio at West TV HQ in the Perth CBD.

We also have a crew of volunteers eager to make some live television.

But what interests you?

Feel free to let us know your ideas and we'll see what we can do!

Cheers, Jason

Jason,

This might be slightly out of WTV's budget, would there be any chance for the station to pickup up the NRL (Rugby League) rights from 9/WIN.

If you guys had it, the Friday match would start at 6pm Perth time, with the Sunday match on at 12pm or 1pm.

9/Win seem to have a problem with NRL, as it plays 99% of the matches available after midnight and because of this, may be interested in letting a non-threatening station such as yours to broadcast some matches.

Imagine the potential in new viewers WTV would gain if you could screen the matches. Not only ex-pats from NSW, QLD & ACT, but think of the New Zealand, English and South African. Not only this, but once Perth people see Rugby League on a permanent basis on Free to air, more people will start watching it.

Rugby League rates its socks off on free to air and Foxtel, beating AFL, Rugby Union and Soccer. And with the NRL wanting to let the Western Reds back into the comp in a couple of years, more and more people are going to start watching Rugby League in Perth.

My brother told me that channel 31 once showed the Ashes Cricket in England about 10 years ago, so there may be some chance that 9/Win give the rights up.

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm not sports fan myself, but I understand many people are.

The Board of WTV wants to do everything it can to attract more viewers to West TV however you've already identified one of the primary limitations we have - budget.

Getting the broadcast rights to the NRL would be terribly expensive and I can't see how we'd be able to afford it in the near term.

And that's if we ever got the opportunity to bid! The existing Commercial FTAs have sport all tied up.

And as much as I would love it if they would be willing to let us broadcast it when they can't - that's never going to happen!

The existing hegemony don't like West TV, especially now that our ratings are starting to get embarrassingly (for them) high. We are now the competition. We are threatening.

We are chasing the same advertiser dollars, so they certainly aren't going to be doing us any favours!

Great idea, but unfortunately not going to happen!

Keep on with the ideas though!

Cheers, Jason

Why not look at starting something yourself?

After all the "Garden Gurus" started in Perth so it can be done.

WTV can give you all the support you need to make something specific to Perth!

Cheers, Jason

N the theme of sports why not have a come and try sports

For example

Little known sports

Archery
Lacrosse
Card games
Shooting

Where the public may not know what's goes on. Sort of an everything you did and didn't want to know

This would get some of the non mainstream sports on the air. Stay away from the cricket afl etc

Thoughts?
